Victoria was the only child of Princess Victoria of Saxe-Coburg and Edward Duke of Kent, fourth son of George III. She was the last monarch of the Hannover house.

She was born on May 24 1819 in Kensington Palace, London, England and died on January 22 1901 at the age of 81 years old in Osborne House, Isle of Wight.

Victoria was crowned on June 28 1838 and her reign lasted from June 20 1837 to January 22 1901.

When Victoria came to the throne it was weak and unpopular but she and her period managed to turn the things to the opposite way.

Also she married his cousin Albert in 1840 of Saxe-Coburg.  Albert exerted tremendous influence over the Queen and until his death was virtual ruler of the country. The Queen withdrew from public life after the death of Albert in 1861 until her Golden Jubilee in 1887.

During her reign happened a lot of important things for the development of UK. There was a lot of positive things but also there was negatives in relation to the society.

On the one hand, talking about the positive things, England became powerful and rich again and it was the largest empire and as a result the population increased because of the standard of living in that time improved, so woman in that period could have more children and the result was that fertility improved a lot. Also, as a consequence of no having epidemics and not very important diseases the mortality was lower. Another important fact is that Britain became industrialized. Culture and architecture had their time too in this period and communication and transport played an important role too. And things like photography emerged in this period and, in fact, the queen Victoria was the first monarch to be photographed. So, as I said before communication and transport were very important, and things such cinema, telegraph, etc…too because it contributed to the english economy so obviously it was very important. And last but not least, in this period began the science progress, an important thing to the development too.

On the other hand, talking now about the negative things, there’s some. Not all could be nice, right? First we have the poverty. The poverty was caused because the population increased and everywhere was overcrowded and there wasn’t enough work for so many people or the salary was not enough to survive. And here we have the second and important negative thing. How the salary was not enough and the poverty was very strong the child labour began. The children started to work at the age of 3 or 4 years old and they worked in mines or factories at least 16 hours a day. And the last thing, the prostitution and this started basically for the same reasons of the child labour, too much poverty and little money and because of that women between 15 or 22 years old started.

Also mention that the queen Victoria became the Empress of India on May 1 1876, and it would be called the “Jewel of the Crown”.

About her descendants, she had 9 children with her husband Albert, and her 9 children married into royal and noble families across Europe and 26 of her 42 grandchildren married with another members of royal and noble families, tying them together and earning her the sobriquet “the grandmother of Europe”. But because of that ,one disease came up, the hemophilia, and it spread through all her descendants. We have and example with the son of the last Zar of Russia, Nichola II, who had hemophilia because his mother was a descendant of Victoria. Also, because of this all marriages everyone ,or almost everyone, in the royal houses are related, like our last monarchs, Sofia and Juan Carlos, that they actually were related.

Hemophilia through Queen Victoria

Her reign of 63 years and seven months was longer than that of any of her predecessors and is known as the Victorian Era. It was a period of industrial, cultural, political, scientific, and military change within the United Kingdom, and was marked by a great expansion of the British Empire.

Her son and successor, Edward VII, initiated the House of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, the line of his father.

To finish say that the fashion of the Victorian era was one of the best.
